It was created on November 21, 1808, by an imperial decree of Napoleon I.

Tarn-et-Garonne was born from a redistricting and ""partial annexation"" of the territories of neighboring departments. (Lot, Aveyron, Tarn, Haute-Garonne, Gers and Lot et Garonne)

It has ten territories, all of which are as rich and varied as each other.
